Copyright is the answer to
protecting creative outlets it is an act that protects people’s work from being
used without permission or being stolen and claimed as someone else’s work.
There is a long process that you must go through so that you are able to gain
permission to use copyrighted work, you must first gain permission and consent
from the owner of the work most musicians for example are in cooperation with a
copyright company which deals with members of the public and companies
interested in using their work for example the ‘PRS’ these companies look into
nature of the requests and the give a cash sum of how much is to be paid so
that the music is being used with a license 90% goes to the artist, as well as this
you can write a letter to the artist asking for permission to use their work in
your creative outlet and you may be granted it in this form as well meaning the
artist is being compensated for the work being used.
This process is followed in
all cases when someone wants to use copyrighted work, TV broadcasters usually
pay a yearly fee to PRA so that they are able to use any soundtrack without
having to keep paying a separate fee each time, copyright means the artist is
aware that their work is being used and their hard work is recognized.
In my music video I will be
using a copyrighted song if I was to then present work to the public I would
have to pay a fee to get a license to use the song although I wont be presenting
it to the public as it will only be used for school work.
If you are unable to pay a
fee for using copyright music there is also another option which is using music
without a copyright these are available on the web and are free to use be the
public with no fee although some websites want to be aware of what the song
will be used for other than this you are free to use the music without having
to pay a cash sum
