Questions for interview
Do you use social media sites on a day-to-day basis?
Asking this I was able to get an idea of how often my interviewees used social media and how much it was apart of their lives, this then gives us an idea of the way they use social media which is necessary when hearing their opinions on the subject.

Has a social media ever caused conflict between you and someone you know?
This was an important question in finding out how social media could have a negative effect and the part it plays in young peoples lives and conflict between each other.
What is you opinion on becoming Facebook official?

Get an idea of the different opinions the young adults have on a controversial top that has been known to cause conflict interesting to see most don’t take much interest in becoming official online.

What is your opinion on online dating?
Online dating is growing day by day and had a huge amount of paying users looking for someone through the internet, it was interesting to find out what the people of this generation thought of this form of meeting people.

What is most common reason for conflict from social media?
Without having to give them a source of conflict I was able to hear from their experience what was the most common reason conflict began, this show just how much social media has altered day to day life and become a significant aspect of our lives.

Would being in a relationship effect how often you use social media and the way you use it? How? Why?

This question gives us an idea of how depending on the persons relationship status the way they use social networking sites can alter. This is an interesting concept and shows the thought that goes into what users post.

Assignment 4: Structure and Conduct your interview

Refining my idea - feedback from pitch
Once I Presented my pitch to the class I was able to gain positive and negative feedback on my pitch and radio insert on things that were working and went well and aspects that could be further improved. The response to my presentation was that i came across as organised and prepared including a good amount of both primary and secondary research to back up my ideas. My class also agreed my topic for the radio insert and the tone it is to be in is fitting for both the audience and the radio station, they agreed this was well thought out. Aspects I was told I could improve on in the feedback were reconsidering the time frame I chose to air my show which was 7:30 as this is a time when a large amount of people are tuning in and as a result may be unrealistic to gain air time at this point and so I will be altering this to around 7:20 am when my listeners will still be listening and will fit better with the radio show. Another key piece of feedback I gained was to make the link between the question and my secondary research more clear and have statistics on more social media sites. After getting all this feedback I will be able to improve both my idea and pitch.

Conducting interviews
Before I begin my interviews, I had to make sure I was prepared and had strong knowledge on my subject as in my earlier research I found this was key in achieving a good interview. I did this by selecting my interviewees in advance and discussing the subject with them to get an idea of what their opinion will be in the interview as well as this I also made sure they were comfortable being filmed and would permit me to use their voice in my show. This gas meant that I was much organised when it came to recoding and knew who I needed to film and when.

I will be recording my interviews in Acland Burghley in the common room this will be suitable as all the people that I will be interviewing will all be present so I can get it all finished in one day and all the clips can sound similar, I will be sat in the studying section where there is little noise and the acoustics will achieve a clear interview that will run smoothly.  I will make sure the microphone is placed in the correct place where the listener will be able to clearly hear both the question and the answer and one person is not louder or quieter than the other, placement of the microphone will be key in achieving a professional sounding insert. I have planned a collection of questions that I will be asking as well as back up questions that I can use if I feel as though the interview is not going the way I have planned and the interviewee isn’t expressing themselves enough.

when doing my research I was able to look into a range of different interview styles so that I could build up an idea of how I would like my radio insert to sound and the approach I would like to take on my question; I have chosen to go for a lighthearted although informational tone so that the interviewee and listener feels comfortable although there is still a great amount of knowledge that can be gained from the interviews. Before I begin recording the interview I will show my interviewee the questions they will be asked so that they can ask any questions they may have and have a little time to articulate what they are going to say, this will insure they interview runs much smoother.

My Plan
I will be giving myself a week to record my interviews so that if any do go wrong I can reschedule with the interviewee and have it re-recorded I will be recording from the 9th December - 15th December; scheduling all my interviews at a specific time will ensure that I am organised and able to fit in every recoding, the times I have chosen to record is from 4pm-6pm as this is at a time when students, teachers and parents have free time and are able to spend a few minutes answering questions, this is also fitting to where I will be recording as common room is open for studying at this time so the students I will be into interviewing will already be here.

The recording equipment I will be using will be borrowed from Acland Burghley School which will be a camera and microphone, as a result I will not have to worry about equipment budget just make sure the equipment is safely returned to the school once I have finished recording. I will then import my clips onto Premier Pro and edit them cutting out pieces off the recordings that I don’t want to use and making sure that they run smoothly and the end product sounds professional.

How I will prepare for
Gaining consent – I will insure that all people included in my interview package have agreed and have knowledge that the package will air on the radio as well as the footage which will be released on the radio website, to insure I have proof of their agreement and knowledge of this I will give them a form to sign, having an on paper agreement is key so that there can be no issues with interviewees complaining once the piece is released.
Copyright issues - to make sure I don’t break any copyright laws I will be using royalty free music if needed for my introduction, it would also be a good idea to contact the social media sites to ensure they are happy with the radio station releasing a piece which mentions their company name.

Client liaison – I will give all my interviewees a contact number so that they can get into contact if they have any issues or problems they would like to address, maintaining contact with the interviewee is key to insure they feel comfortable.

Pitch and Proposal

Target audience and overall content
I plan on creating a  radio insert for KISS 100 breakfast show where i will be asking a range of relevant people questions on thier opinions on the effects of social media on real life relationships, i have chosen this subject as i am aware that a huge amount of young and mature audiences are able to relate and have diverse opinions,  this is important as the audience for this breakfast show ranges from people going to work as well as school. The interviews will allow the audience to hear a range of opinions from poeples personal experiences as well as hear information and statistics on the matter. The taget audience i have chosen to focus on is 16-18 year olds as they are known to be the most enthusiastic of social media users and so will be aware of the effects and have strong opinions on the matter, although i would like to also include two interviews from an adults perspective for example a techer or parent, this will make the dicussion much more interesting for a range of listeners. Through this insert i aim to inform people on the effects that  the social media world is having on our real world relationships, in turn i feel involving the perspective of an adult and then presenting it to my target audinece will give them a much wider range on opinions and open their eyes to different experiences, this makes the show much less bias. The main question i will be asking in the interviews is, 'why do you think social media is effecting our real life relationships?' by starting with a very direct and sugestive question it allows the interviewee to speak thier opinion on the subject as well as elaborate on why they think this. it can also create argument if the interviewee dissagrees with the statement and this will lead to them disscussing their opinion in more detail and this is what i am aiming for. my interviews will be in a light hearted tone so that the interviewee feels comforatble as well as informational depending on the interviewee, older interviewees will take the interview much more serious than my younger aged interviewees. I will ask multiple, open and direct questions to get a good idea of their experience with social media and what they think about how its advances are effecting our relationships.

Equipment requirements and time scheduling
To produce my interviews i will be using a flip camera and a microphone, provided by school (Acland Burghley), i will be recoring my younger interviewees after 3pm as they have to be at college or school and will be best available after this, i will go to secondary schools and sixth forms as this is where my target audience spend most of thier time one i have got my interviewee i will try and find a area where it is quite and the acoustics are suitable so that the recorning of all my ionterviews come out clear, this will be key in later stages because is an interview is not clear it will have to be discarded. as for my older interviewees they will most likely me working 9 to 5 jobs so i will have to contact them an arange a time that is most suitable to them. before recording anywhere i must make aure that i have permission form the person in power to record so that their is no issues.

journalistic context
the radio show i will be presenting my intert on is KISS 100 breakfast show, this show consists of local news as well as interesting news form around the world, they disscus recent events and their opinions on these and have audience members call in do speak their opinions and experiences; i feel my peice will in turn fit smoothly with the rest of the show. the radio show starts at 6am and finishes at 9am and is focused at poeple going to school and work with early starts i will be using around 10 mins of air time for my insert at around 7.30 as this is when my target will be most likely listening. Another aspect of this radio show and station which makes it right for my show is beacuse it fits my target audience anf has a range of different listeners form more mature to younger audiences.

Primary and secondary research
After conducting my primary research I was able to find that a great amount of my target audience feel social media effects their relationships both positively and negatively. as a result of the research I was also able to understand which social media sites are the most popular at the time which I found were, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook through finding out this information I will be able to then create questions around these social networking sites to ensure they are relevant to my interviewees. In doing my secondary research I was able to gather statistics on social media and its direct effect on relationships, I could then utilise these statistics and incorporate them into my questions to build a more detailed and in depth conversation which is also factual and educational. I found "66 percent of divorces in the last year this represents the level of involvement social media" this proves the effect social media has on daily life, i will try and design a question around this to find out what my interviewees opinion is on the statistic.

When doing secondary research I found this video where a presenter goes around town interviewing people on their thoughts on social media and whether it effects relationships. This video is set in a relaxed and conversational tone this is similar to the tone that I would like to produce in my radio package, the interviewer provides open questions and allows the interviewee too go off into a discussion about what they think on the matter. I took inspiration

From some of the topics that lead to interesting answers from the interviewees and will incorporate them into my own package for instance the questions about dating sites and the publics opinions on those as this is quite a controversial topic.
