Task 4-Regulation

ASA
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the independent regulator for advertisement in the UK across all media they abide by the codes of advertisement they act on complaints that have been made and keep an eye on the media making sure there is no adverts in the media that can be harmful or misleading to the public. if a member if the public would lie to make a complaint there is a step by step guide on how to go about complaining about an advert, they will then check if someone has made a complaint about that particular advert as well and then you will be contacted with someone who deals with adverts if there are several complaints about the same particular advert they will the look into it and send it to the council who will decide if codes have been breached and if  action should be made against the advert.

on their website the ASA say that they cover different sections of advertisement in the media from TV, radio to mobile and postal making sure all adverts follow the codes that are set and there is nothing that can be harmful to the viewer, there are any codes that must be looked at before an advert can be broadcasted and shown to the public. i research into the codes one of them was the harm and offence code this means that
  1. Advertisements must contain nothing that could cause physical, mental, moral or social harm to persons under the age of 18.
  2.  Advertisements must not cause serious or widespread offence against generally accepted moral, social or cultural standards.
  3. Advertisements must not exploit the special trust that persons under the age of 18 place in parents, guardians, teachers or other persons.
these are three examples of the rules from the code of harm and offence off the ASA website i thought that this was important as it keeps adverts from showing anything that will be harmfull to an audience under the age of 18
another code i looked into was the prohibited categorises:
  1.  breath-testing devices and products that are intended to mask the effects of alcohol
  2.  betting systems and products that are intended to facilitate winning games of chance
  3. prostitution and sexual massage services
this is a list of what is not acceptable in adverts this is the guide line so that nothing is shown in an advert that can then result into a complaint and the advert having to be taken down.

this advert by the company Paddy Power got over 1000 compalints and was seen as going against the rules of the ASA because it contained humor that was seen to be making fun of blind people and animal cruelty, as there were so many complaints made to the ASA they began to look into this advert although when they did they found that they did not agree with the complaints and found the advert acceptable and following regulations and so the advert was not taken down and remains on television. this is a quote from the ASA about the advert.
"We considered it was unlikely to be seen by most viewers as malicious or to imply that blind people were likely to cause harm to animals whilst playing football. We therefore concluded that the ad was unlikely to be seen as humiliating, stigmatising or undermining to blind people and was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence"-ASA
Ofcom
Ofcom is a communications regulator, specialising in adverts for television, film, radio and postal services they make the decisions on weather adverts are suitable to show the public this decision is made by the board make up of non-executive chairman,non-executive directors, chief executive and executive directors although this is just one stage of a many that an advert must go through before it can be shown to the public

Ofcom deal with complaints in a very precise may and want to make sure that all members of the public that want to complain about an advert feel they are bing listened to and something is being done about their issue, on there website you are able to see what complaints have been made and what has been done by Ofcom as a result. There are two steps to complaining about and advert to Ofcom at first you must read into their guidelines which tell you how to complain so that you are prepared then you can email someone who works in the organisation informing of what you think is wrong with the advert and giving all your reasoning for the complaint they will then look into your complaint, if nothing comes of your complaint and you are still very unhappy with the advert you can call in and speak to a member of the organisation this way you can get your point across in the clearest form, if this also is unsuccessful and you see no improvement and you believe your complaint is very valid then you can get in contact with the secretary of the organisation and they will tell you if anything can be done with your complaint

3B-Employment legislation and Employee rights

Health and safety:
i looked into the health and safety regulations for ITV and was able to find that  they enforce their health and safety by ensuring that
-their is a clear communication about health and safety with employees
-risk assessments are made and these are then used as a planning tool on forming the health and safety rules
-all itv staff as well as freelancers have health and safety rules they must follow
-all departments of the itv follow clear health and safety rules that have been given out
-they have an internal team of health and safety specialists who develop the health and safety rules and keep them up to date
-there is also an internal support service which is there for employees to assist with day to day health and safety issues in the work place
-they also look into other companies within the production and broadcast business and look at what they follow for their health and safety rules and through this they can improve their own rules making their work place a safe environment.
employees need to be aware that if there is a problem with the health and safety in their work are or if there is an accident that they inform the internal health and safety support service which will then look into it and also advise employees on what to do so that the problem is acted upon immediately, when working in the industry this would come in helpful because you wouldn't have to worry about finding a  resolution for a health and hazard you can just call the support service and they will send someone who will be able to fix it this keeps workers from getting hurt and they are able to focus on work instead of getting preoccupied with health and safety issues.

Equal opportunities:
The ITVs employment policy for all parts of their company state that everyone is given a equal opportunity to get a job as well as no member of staff or applicant will be treated differently or less favourably because of their sex, marital or parental status, race, origin, nationality, religion, religious belief, disability, age, sexual orientation, or gender reassignment. the only thing that defines the employee is the amount of work they produce and their ability in the work place. The ITV treat their employees with a great deal of respect and pride themselves on being very fair towards all members of staff as well as making sure that people are treated fairly by their fellow staff members. ITV also make sure that all employees are treated in a way that is fair to them and those around them if someone is dissabled or suffer from an illness they will be given hours that will be suited to them and that they will be comfortable in.

the employment equality (Age) regulations came into force in 2006 and is a secondary legislation which means people not treated unfairly because of their age in the work place, the legislation addressed many aspects including retirement and the ability for those able to request to work beyond the retirement age. this legislation is now suspended by the equality act 2010

i did research into the health and saftey regulations of different TV broadcasters, as i have been looking at the BBC so far i chose to continue and look into their health and safety policy. on the website they have different sections where the different types of accidents are listed and how to report each of them as there are different methods depending on the situation.

-Accident/incident reporting: this informs all employees on how to report an accident and who to conntact, in the case that someone is injured they must contact BBC ORM emediatly so that the report can be rejistered
-serious accident: examples are given of what is conssidered a serious accident
  •  ‘Loss of sight or eye damage’
  •  ‘An absence from work of more than three days due to a work-related accident’
  •  ‘A member of the public taken to hospital as a result of BBC work activities’
  •  ‘Fractures, dislocations or amputations’;
-Contractors in production:this is involed in all broadcasters regulations as it is key that the crew and cast know that the company they are working for will try their hardest to understand their situation and help them. there is also a section on freelancers as they are usually not aware of all the BBC's health and safety regulaions and so if they are baing involved with large groups or crew and cast they will need to have a good knowledge of what acions will need to be made in the event of an accident or injury for example who to conntact and how to resolve the situation and this is why this website will come in very usefull because all members of the industry can be up to date.

The BBC pride themselves on being a diverse company beacsue having a much more diverse collection of employees helps to connect to a larger audience and so opportunities in the BBC are equal. they focuse on having a working environment for their workers that will feel comfortable for all employees for example making sure employees have the right equipment if needed or if they have dissablilties.they value each employee and make sure they feel as though they arebeing treated with the respect they deserve in their work space and no member is treated with an unlawful disadvantage.
The BBC look into many different ways of making sure that alll employeesare equal in their work place for example there is information on how much of their employees are of different relegions as well as how many have disability and then informing the public of what they do to make sure that these people are made to feel no different from any other employee.

3A

Contracts and Ethics:

In the TV and film industry there are a range of different employment contracts that vary in working times these contacts are:

-Full-time and part time contracts this is when the employee works a fixed amount of hours usually 30 to 40 hours a week and has a contract with the employer for this, this contract comes with benefits like minimum level of paid holiday, sick pay and paid maternity leave

-Fixed-term contracts this is a when a contact has been mad with an employer with a expiration date weather it is at the end of a project they have been hired for or a specific task after this date they will no longer be working for this company and they know this from the start when they sign this contract.

-Agency staff is where a company can hire temporary staff through agencies which specialise in finding workers for companies

-Freelancers,consultants, contractors are not committed to any company and work for themselves

-Zero hour contracts this is where workers only come in on call and and if not called then do not come in they are simply paid every time they come in

Confidentiality agreements
are commonly used in TV and film to make sure that information about a show or film that is still in the procedure of being produced does not get out to the public before it is shown on screen, all people who are involved in the making of a show or film much sign this contract this makes sure that no information is leaked this relates to employment contracts as in some cases when working in television means in your employment contract a confidentiality agreement is involved which means the company can then trust you wont share their ideas with other people or companies

Exclusivity contract
means someone has made an agreement that during the time they are working for a company, a TV show or film they will not be involved with any other project from any other company this will be out in their contract this is commonly used with  actors and TV personalities as when they are given their show they must only appear on it so it gets more attention

codes of practice
When hired to work for a television company for example BBC there are some codes of practice you must read and you must then follow these rules in this health and safety is involved as well as other rules about how you should behave on the job and you must abide by these rules while on the job, if you work as a freelancer you also have a codes of practice although instead of it coming form a company that you work for it comes from the union you are apart of and by following these rules you are able to say apart of the union and work. although these rules are in detail and tell employees how to behave and what to do and not to do employees also have their own personal rules and codes for example if they are not happy with the work place and the kind of work they have to do and it is going against their personal codes of practice they are able to leave their job

i researched into the BBCs codes of practice and i found the following:
Impartiality
the BBC make sure that all employees know they must only give their personal opinion on the job when nessisary as this could then be altering what viewers opinions are, for example if a presenter is on air and they are in a possition where they must give their opinion for instance if they are giving their opinion on a film they must be fair and have an opinion thats not too much on he negative or possitive side by doing this it is allowing the viewer to make their own opinion because if there is a very negaive opinion from the presenter it could result to less people viewing the film which would then put the broadcaster in a bad light.

Truth and accuracy
The BBC make it clear that they make sure all the information they give through their shows and segments are as accurate as possibe this is so viewers do not get any misleading messages, this is aspecially important when it comes to news shows as the information that comes from the news show as fact and this is is what they must be. gossip is also not allowed on BBC because it is not fact and so the public will not expect the BBC to cover any stories like for instance rumors about celebrities or stories to do with online social media, this makes the BBC a much more serious broadcaster then the others that are available

Thought these codes the BBC makes sure that there viewers are comfortable with what Is shown and have a positive viewing experience these codes mean all that viewers take away from the Shows that they broadcast is factuall and no opinion is forced on to the viewer it is simply a platform I'm which viewers gain knowledy and are entertained. There are guidelines on what can be shown on and at what time, swearing is not allowed to be shown these rules make it friendly for people of all ages

There are several stages a show goes through before it can be shown to the public as it is important there is nothing in a show that could then cause offense to an audience, for example before a show is given the green flag to be broadcasted they must go through the equality and diversity stage there is an analysis which is done to make sure that all is equal in each BBC programme to make sure of this each poject must go through a Diversity action plan and this will make sure the show is aceptable to be shown to an audience and meets it expectations of the diversity startagy.
As well as this another one of the procedures a project must go through is the general policies and guidelines of a show this is to make sure there is no branding present on any show so no logos are seen on screen and so on, because the BBC does not have advertisment of sponsoring as it is funded by other means their stages can be different to other broadcsters so they do to have to go over advertisment.

looking into social concerns i decided to go onto the BBC websie and their covarage for the Mark Durggan case, this report informas the viewer of all the facts of the case. What happened with the armed police man and how it then resulted into riotting, in the report there are quotes from witnesses and stories to go with them from Duggans point of view and from the authorities, the way in which the article is writen makes it clear that there is no sides being taken there it is very two sided and balanced with no opinion from the writer which is as it is shown in their code the BBCs purpose it to inform and educate their viewers or in this case readers about an event and this then allows them to form thier own opinion this is the same in all of the articles the BBC have produced that i have looked at. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25657949

task 6- audience information

When advertisers are preparing to make a form of advertisement for their client it is key that they study the kind of audience that will be interested in the product for many different reasons, by studying the kind of occupation they have they will be able to know what kind of lifestyle they have as well as the amount of income they get, looking at where they are situated will also give them an understanding of what their interests are and give them a wider idea of their way of life to add to all this information they will also look at the overall information for example gender and age that most commonly use the product. with all this information they will then be able to produce an advertisement that will capture the attention of the right audience.

there are many ways in which the audiences are split into different groups this then makes it much more easier for the advertiser to get an understanding of who they will be selling the product to
-can can split them into groups of standard occupational classification which means they are able to build an understanding of the amount of income they have which will tell them what their lifestyle is like.
-They can also be put into groups of psychographics which tells you what kind of opinions and desires the audience may have tis gives them information on what will grab their attention and so what will be most suitable for the advertisement, if some one for example is a succeeder they will have a higher income and will also have a lifestyle that means they are more open to new products and price will not be as much of an issue with them as they are at the top of the psychographics on the other hand the struggler will have a much smaller income and have a very different way of life to the succeder this will effect what they are interested in and what captures their attention, advertisers use this to know what they use in their adverts and what methods of advertising will get the right peoples attention.
-We can also put an audience in groups of Geodemographics which tells us where they live and this can impact the way in which the audience think as well as the things that they are interested in for example the lifestyle of some one living in the city to someone living in the suburbs is different so different advertisement methods can be used for different places as it will capture more attention. the place in which someone lives also informs us of someones income and this also tells us what to apply to the advert to make audiences feel the product it suited for them and make them want to purchase it
-another group that audiences are very commonly split in is age this will tell us the kind of things the audience are overall interested in as well as what they can show in their adverts for example if it is aimed at children of a young age then an advertiser will have to find out what captures their interest and then use that in their advert
-Audiences can also be split into groups of gender this then makes it easier for the advertiser for example of the product is made for a set gender female for male they will know what kind of advert will be most suitable and get the right attention from the right gender for example if it is a product directed at males then the advert that they produce must have a clear message to the viewer that the product is for males, as well as this the gender of the audience indicates the kinds of colours and advent types that will be most fitting for the advert

the useful aspects of looking into the standard occupational classification of your audience is you are able to find out a lot of key information about what kind of lifestyle they have, the amount of income they have as well as what interests they commonly have. once they find this information they are able to use it in their adverts to make them more suitable for the product and attract more attention from the right audience, the occupation of the audience will tell the advertiser what language to use, what kind of things to focus on in the advert. Advertisers are able to pin point the kind of person
their client wants to attract as well as what kind of what lifestyle they have this will help them understand what appeals to them most and they can then transfer this in their adverts.

research of psychographics comes useful for advertisers as they are able to understand the audience and what their attitude to life is this shows us their way of life which will come in useful when looking at ideas for adverts and knowing what will capture their attention for example if the product is aimed at a audience of strugglers they will know that they have a smaller budget so involving the low price in the advert will be key because we know that they do not have a lot of money, putting a deal of low price may attract them. this information can also be important when making the advert as the advertiser is able to understand the audience aspirations and use this in the advert to grab their attention for example the explorers core need in life is to discovery they can then have aspects of their advert interlinked with this which will make it clear that this product is for that kind of person.

it is important to identify the geodemographics of an audience as it will help the advertiser understand not only where the most of the audience lives but also what their way of life is and the kind of income they have, weather they live in he city or in the countryside will also inform the advertiser of what kind of advertising techniques they can use to get to the product across to the audience in the best way possible.

Age is also identified so that the advertiser knows what kind of things can be shown in their advert and what cant as it will not be acceptable as well as what kind of things grabs the audiences attention for example if the product that the client is selling is for children then they may use brighter colours as this will grab a young persons attention much more then an advert that is very dull, as well as this the advertiser is able to use actors of this age in the advert and knowing the age will give them a wider idea of the way the audience thinks and the kind of factors they will look at when watching the advert

identifying the gender of the audience will come useful to the advertiser as they will then learn what kind of things will get the most attention from that gender as well as know what actors to use in the adverts and what kind of facts about the product to focus on to get right people paying attention.

The BARB shows the official viewing figures for television in the UK, they use the help of specialist research companies to collect the data for the TV viewing behaviour for the 26 million households in the UK

This image shows what the BARB do this is how the data they collect is shown on their website, it shows how many viewers each channel gets they record the average daily, weekly and  monthly viewing

An Audience Measurement Panel measures the amount of people in an audience viewing it can be used for many different things for example TV, film, websites, magazines and newspapers. this then helps advertisers and broadcasters determined what kind of people are watching and at what times are the most people viewing this will then tell them what is the best time to show their advert when the most people will see it. the pros to this is advertisers know how many people are watching their advert and they can then look at their sales and see if this has been a successful advert, they also then learn if the advert should be kept on or changed by looking at the peoples reaction to the advert.

A focus group is when a group of people get together to discuss the negatives and positives of a product before it is launched. this is then the last piece of feedback before the product is released from this they are able to make any last minute improvements.

Task 5- Methods of Research

It is important to conduct research before you produce an advert so that you are able to identify your audience and know what captures their attention, there are any steps to go through so that there is a good understanding of the target audience this will then make sure the product that is being sold will capture the attention if those who it had been made for and will be successful.

Audience research:
It begins with primary research this is when the company starts their own research for example having focus groups to find out information from their target audience and what they look for in the  product they offer as well as photos and other research that has been made by the company themselves. secondary research is research that has been done by others that may not have the conclusion that is wanted but can be used in a positive way for information as well as other information that has been found by others for example books, websites, published results all these can then help get a bigger idea of the target audience and what they look for
Tertiary is then a blend of both primary and secondary research, Quantitative is measurable data which means its results can be put into numbers and measured in a fix amount on the other hand qualitative research is deep information that can be measured with a fixed amount and although can be very useful is hard to summarise this is mainly opinions.
Market research is used to find out about the competition out there and what you will be up against when your product is on the market.
Audience research is finding out about your audience and what what grabs their attention this will be key in knowing what to put in your advert and knowing what your audience will want to see.
Finally, production is all that is involved in the preproduction of your advert for example hiring talent, finding a location, getting props organised and everything else involved in making the advert possible.

Market research:
when doing market research, secondary research can come in useful as you are using resources like other peoples work and findings and books to find out more detailed information about the market as well as what other brands on the market are offering. figures and statistics from other companies will also be in great use as there can then be a comparison and the company is much more informed in what is needed and popular with the public. Using some of your own knowledge and extending this with the information taken from research you are able to widen amount of information you have about the product and the audience. an example of this is looking at existing products and their research and from this getting a wide range of facts that have been backed up with a product, for instance the success of the product e.g income of the product, costumer feedback. positive aspect to market research is you are able to see what works with the target market, you can look at successful products and how they used their advert. analysing other companies adverts in the industry looking at what went well and what could have been improved can help to achieve the perfect advert for the company that reaches out to the desired audience.

Production research:
The style of Primary research will help in understanding production, producing creative and innovative ideas and designs for the production that is being planned. for instance getting information about the details of the production e.g. the script and storyline and its connection to the product. as well as this secondary research can be used to look into what ideas have been used in other production and how successful that idea was by looking into the feed back they got in reviews and also their sales of the product that was being sold.

Advantages and disadvantages of primary research:
one advantage to primary research is you are able to look into and use other peoples secondary research to benefit your production. researches look into their product as it helps them make sure they are on the right track and address any issues that they need to focus on. they can analyse existing products they have on the market and find the positive and negative aspects of it and through this can build a product that will be even more successful the cons to Primary research is it is time consuming as the research starts off with no existing data as well as this it is quite an expansive form of research as all information has be collected independently without help fro any existing data

Advantages and disadvantages of secondary research:
An advantage to this form of research is it is much less time consuming as the information and data already exists it is simply a question of finding the suitable data that will come in useful to the production, as well as this because the information has already been found it is usually correct. although there can be many disadvantages to this type of research as well, as it has been done by some one else and so you don't have all the information for example who did the research, where they got the information from and how accurate it really is. it could also be based on someones personal opinion that isnt that same as the general publics and this could be bad for production.

Advantages and disadvantages of quantitative research:
Aspects of this method of research that are an advantage are that it can hold vast amounts of data, making it much more practical to get a large amount of information from a big group of people. As well as this it effortless to manage which mean the data can be collected at a fast pace making it  similarly to secondary research much less time consuming. Disadvantages to this form of research is it is challenging to build a questionnaire that is suitable and asks the right questions that will then come useful in the production stage

Advantages and disadvantages of qualitative research:
The advantages of this form of research are, it enables you too analyse and calculate the information as well as this the researcher is unbiased about the findings this means results are much more trustworthy. Although, disadvantages of this style are you can only ask closed questions meaning the answers you get are 'yes' or 'no' or in between. as well as this you cant be certain of who is answering the questionnaire and if they are aware of the subject matter and being honest with their answers.

Shift Work
This means the work operation can be kept running for 24 hours non stop for however long is needed as day and night is divided into shifts which means each person takes different shifts during their job and this is what times they will be working, these can then be changed with other members working to suit each person when doing research into this type of job i found that there can be many negative aspects to it that could effect workers health for example there is a higher chance of becoming obese as well as the appearance of many other health problems, a loss in attention and can be very problematic for family and personal relationships outside of work. in the TV industry i have found that shift work is very popular as some channels are running at all times, a job that i found is a good example of shift work is camera operator this job can have varied different shifts and can lead to an operator working a night shift which means they come in at night and work through out and then are swapped with another operator who will work the day shift this is depending on what is being filmed

Fixed terms
this is when the employee has a contract with the company that they work for tis means at the end of the date and time set on the contract the they will no longer have a job at this organisation this is usually used in TV for a project so that the employee knows when the project will finish and when they will be free to look for another job as they will only be employed for this project, this type of work is mostly use with cast as they are being hired for a set project and once they are finished filming they will be finished the contract makes all dates clear to those involved and makes sure people are aware of the hours they will be working.

Office hours
this is the regular hours that an employee works in television the people that usually are hired in this form are crew and cast from the set of a TV show or film this is because all filming hours have been paned so all employees are aware of how long they are going to work
Although depending on the job some actors and crew members may be needed less which means some will have much longer hours then others resulting to some even finishing in the early hours of the morning. a famous actress or actor for example will usually have much less hours then a crew member who will have to stay on set making sure everything is finished on time and all aspects of the film are perfect.

Freelance
this is someone who is self employed which means they have no contract with any company or organisation for a long term and so are not committed to any long term jobs. most crew members are freelance.
one of the employees in TV which are usually free lance are the actors as they are only hired for one job at a time and once the show is done being filmed they are no longer needed and will then have to go to other castings to find a new job.

Irregular pattern
this is when employees work varied different hours that can very long and start in the early hours of the morning this kind of job is not worked on a regular basis but will start when there is a project that needs finishing quickly.
for example editors work irregular hours to make sure that the film is finished in the time they have been given and it is at its best with no mistakes as this can the effect their career in the future anther job that has these hours is a director as they must make sure the film reaches there standards as they will be putting their name to it in the end.

Hourly rates
this is where an employee gets paid by the hour so each hour they have a fixed amount they will get paid and each hour it adds up and this is how much they will then be paid, this is very common in the TV and film industry and depending on the position of the person and how well known they are  they will be paid more or less.
for example someone who works in the crew on lights or camera may be paid by the hour but their pay will be much smaller to the producer for example who will have a contract instead as their pay will not be as easily calculated hourly

Piece work
this is when an employees pay is decided by the amount of work they have done for example this can be commonly used for actors in TV and film where they are paid due to the amount of screen time they have this is why the stars are paid a vast amount and the extras can be paid very small to nothing for
appearing on screen for only a few seconds.

Advert Analysis: Analysing a T.V advert

Task 3

In this commercial the product that is being advertised is a perfume this is made very clear to the viewer from the start as we firstly see the girl in the advert throwing bottles of the perfume in the air and then after this we also see a oversized bottle of the perfume making it very clear what is being sold in the commercial. The brand has put the product in a very positive light as the advert has a very light hearted, happy feel to it and this then sends messages to people viewing that this perfume will also have this kind of effect on you and will smell very young and vibrant like the advert. there are pink flowers throughout the advert and this also creates an understanding of what kind of smell the perfume may have

To to add to the feel of the advert the soundtrack is also very cheery and romantic this type of music shows to the viewer what kind of person this fragrance is made for which would be someone young and fun just like the music being used. in the end of the advert the voice over says the name of the perfume and the brand in french in a whispering voice this fits as paris is said to be the city of love and this then fits with the whisper. the whisper also goes well with the advert as it is light and pure throughout if it was to have a normals speaking voice it wold be too much of a drastic chance from the light soft background music.

The actress in the commercial is a young female this implies the product has been made for people of her age range as she is the representation of the target market someone young and care free. the fact that she has no clothes on and has been covered in flowers is a reflection on how the perfume may smell for example very pure and natural. if the advert had someone of a different gender it would suggest that it was not for females and this would then not capture their target market for this reason the advert uses someone that the target market is able to relate to and see who they would like to be in as this will make them want to purchase their product.

The commercial grabs attention by having very simple but effective graphics that make the advert look very professional and put the product in a positive light it adds to the view of the product as there are flowers falling in the background it suggests the kind of sent it has and also what kind of time is would be most suitable to wear for example summer what with the blooming flowers throughout the advert. the oversized perfume bottle throughout the advert makes sure the viewer is aware of what the perfume looks like 100% because they have made it such a big focus point in the advert.

This product is aimed at someone like me as it has a young female in the advert and the colours used are whites and pinks which has connotations of sweets and sugar as well as all things very feminin which gives you an idea of the sent as well. I believe the advertiser made the advert like this because it will right away grab the attention of some one who is girly and likes very feminin and light fragrances and this is good because it will get the right people to think about buying it right away without even having to smell it as it gives an idea of the sent through images and colours. if the advert was to be just a black and white text on the screen saying the name of the fragrance it would not attract as much people and the type of person they would like to purchase the product which is some one young would not be paying any attention to the advert as well as this without smelling the perfume the viewer will not now what it can be like or even know what it looks like as there would be no image in the advert.

the commercial uses sex appeal as well as a famous face to sell the product through the model who also worked in fashion week and can be recognised by the market for someone they would aspire to be like, because she is wearing no clothes at all this then inspires a viewer who may want to be like the model and look like her they may feel like the perfume will make them feel closer to this, although this could also have a negative effect on the viewer and make them feel as though they must fit into the size zero image that is being shown in the advert and this is what causes people to feel unhappy with their own image and may lead to a smaller range of people buying the product.

task one- forms of tv advertising

This advert takes the route of anti realist as well as being a series advert where each advert that the company produces is a continuation from previous adverts although the character may be in a realist environment the character itself is very anti realist as it is based on a clothed, talking meerkat this attracts more attention although it has very little to do with what they are marketing

In this colgate advert the form of commercial that is used is talking heads this means there are actors used to talk about the product and essentially sell it to the viewer by talking about how it works for them and what its positives are having them talk in the position of the consumer. the positives to this type of advert is it can persuade people who may be unsure about buying the product to give it a try on the other hand having actors talk about the product may make some consumers feel like the product may not be what the actors say it is because they have been paid to talk bout the product positively.

the BT adverts are a great example of series adverts they have a plot and every time they make a new advert it continues from the story of the last one this connects the viewer and is a very different kind of advert because it means being able to make something that can then be recognisable by viewers and something to look forward too. This could also then mean more consumers as the three main characters are young and up to date with the newest technology and the advert shows to the viewer what having their product in their home would be like and its benefits. although the negatives to this kind of advert is it can become very annoying to viewers and can become overly played as it is an advert and appears on TV several times a day people can become fed up with it and lose interest in what they are trying to sell.

This advert is filmed in the form of a documentary as it is filmed on a hand held this makes it look less planed out and more in the moment and real which is why it gives it the effect of a documentary the positive aspects to this kind of advert is it brings the viewers attention in because it is  a different kind of advert that isn't commonly seen and also brings an aspect if entertainment. positives to this type of advert is that it at the same time advertises the product and also raises awareness for something else for example animal cruelty, negatives are some people may not be able to understand the point they are
trying to get across and it can become annoying after being shown so often.

in this advert animation has been used throughout showing a two versions of a character as they come together, the ale light colours represent the product they are selling and this would not be achieved as well without animation. positive aspects to this kind of advert is it can be as creative as possible and also tell a story that wouldn't be possible without animation, animation also connects with the whole family and makes you think very positively about the company. Negatives to this kind of ad is that people aren't able to put them selves in the position of the characters as much as they would if it was a real person.

This is an example of a stand alone advert which means that there is only one part to it and there is no continuation in other adverts. this is the most common form of advert and simply gets the message to the viewer about the product they are selling this can be very successful as people will not get as fed up with the companies adverts because every time there is a new ad it is something different on the other hand having a stand alone advert can also mean that people aren't as connected with your adverts

this weight watchers advert is an example of a realist narrative because it is realistic it shows the relationship between mother and daughter while the mother speaks about it, this kind of ad get the viewer to connects they can place themselves in the position of their person they are watching and this makes what they are selling feel much more real which results into much more people buying in to it.
