Task Thee – Understanding the techniques of music videos

Use of Chroma key
VIDEO
Here is a video I created employing the chroma key technique using a green screen and filming ourselves in front of it before going online and editing in a background, this makes it possible for a director to build an illusion that an actor is at any location they would like without having to leave the studio.

A example where this technique has been used in music videos is Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ the entire video is filmed in studio behind a screen, the director rather than put a traditional scenery background has employed interesting illustrations and moving images adding a different and out of the box aesthetic to the visuals.

Effects and interesting transitions
Layering shots
This video is an example of effects that are applied in the editing process to give the video more depth this video includes a range of shots that are layered with other shots I feel this makes simple scenes look more complex and maintain audiences attention, I will try and use this in my video.

Some parts of this video have been reversed, I feel utilizing this techniques gives the video an artistic feel as well as makes a piece of normal footage look more different and fitting with the soundtrack, I will try and utilize this in a few of the scenes in my video as I like the aesthetic it produces.
Cut to the beat

These two music videos are a great example of cutting to the beat of the song, LMFAO’s video cuts to a different shot every time there is an “aaah” in the lyric this an different take on the technique, while ‘the white stripes’ video cuts at the beat each time making the visuals and the song run smoothly together and construct a relationship between the two.
