Task Two - styles of TV advertising


There are more than one style used in this advert, the main two being sex appeal and humor this is a common choice of style for Lynx adverts. Making the advert humorous allows the audience to feel the company is light hearted and as a result their product is aimed at those who may take life less seriously, comedy in a commercial also usually conotates to being aimed at those of a younger generation rather then than those who are older who's attention would be caught by something more serious and to the point. 
The use of humor grabs the attention of the audience and if the viewer is able to laugh at an advert it results to it being much more memorable this then widens the chance of te audience wanting to purchase the product for sale as when they see it once again they will remember the advert that acompanies it. As the advert is selling a men's hair product it the choice of humor is suitable this is because men have been shown to be much more attracted to lighthearted, funny themes than women this shows that the company have done their research and found that young men would find this entertaining and grab the right collection of people's attention. This advert is memorable for the viewer as it grasps the attention of the viewer with an unrelistic story line and has aspects of escapism for the viewer leading it to stand out from other adverts.  
The style of humor in this advert is successful as it makes the advert memorable and this can then lead to a rise in sales which In effect is the purpose of the advert 
Sex appeal is the second style used in the advert this is done through the presance of the young female in swim wear this is also a very common style that is used by Lynx for most of their adverts, the use of sex appeal is an obvious route for this product as it is aimed at an audience of young men who would stereotypically be interested in this and this is therefore a way of grabing their attention. The female being presented in the advert builds the idea that using the product can lead to getting a female similar to the one in the adverts attention, this strategy of pulling the viewers attention leads to it being memorable as a beautiful women is something that all mean are interested in and as a result will then lead to them remembering the advert and wanting to purchase the product. This device would be successful to some extent as it will grab the average joes attention although it can't be said to work for all men as it is quite predictable. 
The advert does not provoke any emotional resonse other than laughter as it is on the lighthearted scale and rather focuses on escapism. There are a range of fast pace changing shots this relates to the young audience that is is aimed at and also brings a form of action to the advert.
