Shift Work
This means the work operation can be kept running for 24 hours non stop for however long is needed as day and night is divided into shifts which means each person takes different shifts during their job and this is what times they will be working, these can then be changed with other members working to suit each person when doing research into this type of job i found that there can be many negative aspects to it that could effect workers health for example there is a higher chance of becoming obese as well as the appearance of many other health problems, a loss in attention and can be very problematic for family and personal relationships outside of work. in the TV industry i have found that shift work is very popular as some channels are running at all times, a job that i found is a good example of shift work is camera operator this job can have varied different shifts and can lead to an operator working a night shift which means they come in at night and work through out and then are swapped with another operator who will work the day shift this is depending on what is being filmed
Fixed terms
this is when the employee has a contract with the company that they work for tis means at the end of the date and time set on the contract the they will no longer have a job at this organisation this is usually used in TV for a project so that the employee knows when the project will finish and when they will be free to look for another job as they will only be employed for this project, this type of work is mostly use with cast as they are being hired for a set project and once they are finished filming they will be finished the contract makes all dates clear to those involved and makes sure people are aware of the hours they will be working.
Office hours
this is the regular hours that an employee works in television the people that usually are hired in this form are crew and cast from the set of a TV show or film this is because all filming hours have been paned so all employees are aware of how long they are going to work
Although depending on the job some actors and crew members may be needed less which means some will have much longer hours then others resulting to some even finishing in the early hours of the morning. a famous actress or actor for example will usually have much less hours then a crew member who will have to stay on set making sure everything is finished on time and all aspects of the film are perfect.
Freelance
this is someone who is self employed which means they have no contract with any company or organisation for a long term and so are not committed to any long term jobs. most crew members are freelance.
one of the employees in TV which are usually free lance are the actors as they are only hired for one job at a time and once the show is done being filmed they are no longer needed and will then have to go to other castings to find a new job.
Irregular pattern
this is when employees work varied different hours that can very long and start in the early hours of the morning this kind of job is not worked on a regular basis but will start when there is a project that needs finishing quickly.
for example editors work irregular hours to make sure that the film is finished in the time they have been given and it is at its best with no mistakes as this can the effect their career in the future anther job that has these hours is a director as they must make sure the film reaches there standards as they will be putting their name to it in the end.
Hourly rates
this is where an employee gets paid by the hour so each hour they have a fixed amount they will get paid and each hour it adds up and this is how much they will then be paid, this is very common in the TV and film industry and depending on the position of the person and how well known they are they will be paid more or less.
for example someone who works in the crew on lights or camera may be paid by the hour but their pay will be much smaller to the producer for example who will have a contract instead as their pay will not be as easily calculated hourly
Piece work
this is when an employees pay is decided by the amount of work they have done for example this can be commonly used for actors in TV and film where they are paid due to the amount of screen time they have this is why the stars are paid a vast amount and the extras can be paid very small to nothing for
appearing on screen for only a few seconds.
