This interview went into the top ten most watched
YouTube videos of the year. Paxton is known for is combative style of
interviewing. The Purpose of the Paxton interview with Russell Brand is so
that the audience can understand Brands thoughts on politics and why he has the
authority to discuss politics so openly as he was featured in a politics
magazine, writing an article on his thoughts of the system. Through out the
interview Paxton attempts to find out more information about Brands opinions
and his theory of how it can be improved, testing just how strong his argument
really is. Paxton questions Brands overall knowledge on the subject asking if
he votes and general questions on the topic. He begins the interview with an
open question allowing Russell Brand to elaborate on why he is there and
discuss his article. He then continues asking direct questions, not holding
back, repeatedly asking about the specific theme trying to get a wider
understanding of his thoughts as well as translating a serious tone to the
interviewee. Once Russell makes a point Paxton immediately questions him for
example ‘’they being?’’ This puts Russell under pressure proving how much he
really knows about the topic. The body language of Brand in the interview also
makes it evident that he feels nervous and under pressure especially toward the
end of the interview where we see him touching the interviewer in a bid to
translate to him that he should ease off with his questions, This of course does
not work as this is Paxtons expertise and the goal is to make the interviewee
feel as they are being tested and in the hot seat.
