Purpose of research

Research is key in producing an interview, as you are expected to have a good knowledge of the subject in question. You must also look into your target audience and build an understanding of their interests as this will help you produce an interview that runs smoothly, is effective to the listener and represents the views of the target audience clearly. It is also important that you revise the questions you are going to ask your interviewee and in the order you will be asking them as this will be key in setting the tone of the interview and gaining the information you need, the questions I produce must be clear and relevant. I will be asking questions about how my interviewee uses social networking sites, whether they feel it effects their relationships and interferes with other aspects of day to day life and how? asking how much they use social media is also key in understanding how it effects different ranges of people. it is also key that i research different radio shows that i would like to take inspiration from when creating my own, to help with the style of interview i will be going for and how to communicate to an audience.

This is an example of a radio package which is a primary source of research; as we are able to hear the information directly from the artist themselves without much editing taking place as it is broadcasted live to an audience. It does also show a some secondary too as Katy Perry discusses artist Calvin Harris. Having a primary source in an interview leads to the interview being much more attention grabbing to a listener as it is reliable and can't be contradicted as much as if it was from another source where you can't be sure if what is being said is truth or a rumour. The radio show is broadcasted from 6am to 9am and is a breakfast show this is targeted to towards and audience who either goes to school or work and therefore covers a larger range of age ranges or 16-23 year olds you can also see this by the choice of celebrity to be interviewed. this will be helpful when i start to structure my interviews as i will be focusing on a similar audience and it it inspiring to see what they already tune into currently and what they like listening to. The interview has a relaxed atmosphere and is presented as though it is a discussion this makes the interviewee comfortable, a game is also included where they ask her to sing a christmas song this fits in with the time and makes it different to other interviews she may have done.

Another interview I wil be taking inspiration from is this BBC radio 1 interview which became very popular, i believe this was a successful interview as the interviewer asked a range of open, direct and multiple questions that allowed Kanye too give his opinion on different subject as well as explain himself about different aspects of his career that people may not have know. i take inspiration from the interview because it is relaxed  and casual although he still is able to take all the information he is looking for from the artist.
